Sterile Processing techs clean and prepare medical tools, supplies, and equipment for use in hospitals, clinics, and other healthcare sites. They ensure each item is sterile and safe to use. This course teaches people how to do this kind of work and helps them get ready for jobs in the healthcare field. This program prepares students to take the CRCST (Certified Registered Central Service Technician) exam, and it follows the rules set by the IAHCSMM (International Association of Healthcare Central Service Material Management.) The course includes 60 hours of didactic instruction and 30 hours of lab instruction.

Please note: 400 hours of hands-on experience verified by employer is also required for eligibility for the IAHSCMM exam. This course does not fulfill that requirement.
This program is not financial aid eligible. However, the related Basic Health Care certificate and AGS in Health Professions Exploration (AGSH) degree are eligible. Students taking the Sterile Processing Technician course as part of a related program may be eligible for aid and should work with their financial aid adviser.

Prerequisites
- RD090 and WR090, each with a grade of "C" or better; or placement above stated course levels.
- Must be physically able to lift heavy instrument trays.
- Good verbal communication skills required.
- High school diploma or GED may be required for employment.

This course provides instruction for students who wish to function in entry-level positions in Central Service and Sterile Processing departments of healthcare facilities. Based on the International Association of Healthcare Central Service Materiel Management (IAHCSMM) curriculum, the course is designed for students who wish to obtain certification for Certified Registered Central Service Technician (CRCST). The course includes 60 hours of didactic instruction and 30 hours of lab instruction. Please note: 400 hours of hands-on experience verified by employer are also required for eligibility for the IAHSCMM exam. This course does not fulfill that requirement.
